Early Photography Meets Extreme Hotness

Unidentified hottie, c. 1860

This blog post is my humble homage to my favorite blog of the moment, My Daguerreotype Boyfriend. It combines sharp wit with a clean, attractive page-perfection!  In combing our archives for a contribution, the above unidentified young hottie is the first of, hopefully, many contributions we can make to the annals of historical hotness. (It is not, however, a daguerreotype, nor are many of the images on MDB.)

Though the humorous nature of this blog is the number one reason I tune in, I think that efforts like My Daguerreotype Boyfriend provide a bit more cultural good than what appears upon the surface.  History can sometimes seem hard to connect with and dull- especially to younger generations.  Humor is a great way to inject an otherwise dry topic with some life and interest.  Even though we might visit a sight like MDB for laughs, it’s likely that it will spark interest in other topics as well.  If you didn’t know what a daguerreotype was before you viewed the site, I bet you searched for it afterwards.  Many of the pictures on MDB are rarely seem images of famous individuals-Teddy Roosevelt, shirtless, straight from sculling practice at Harvard? Why yes, I did learn something new!  And at 10,000 followers, I think plenty more folks are learning too!
